Description
This Rolling Stones piece was created from pencil sketches artist David Byrd discovered in a filing cabinet about 10 years ago. He found 13 sketches of some of his earliest rock poster work such as the Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix, plus some iconic broadway show poster concept art. The original pencil sketch is reproduced on the left side, with the final image on the right.David makes these posters in small batches and annotates and signs them. They are very nicely done. Also, the size is right for economical framing. A very beautiful conversation piece, hand-signed at a great price.
David says, "I created this poster in September 1969 for Alan Klein, the Stones' manager. It was based on one of Muybridge's 'Figures in Motion' against an Islamic motif. The box at the bottom was for the venue overprint.
"Mick Jagger said 'it looks like me in drag.' This was the tour that ended in the notorious Hell's Angels incident at Altamont in 1970. This poster had been pretty much forgotten and was not included in The Art of Rock."
